Hi Champion Family,
My name is Ken Rosette. I live in Cordova Maryland, a small town on the
Eastern Shore. I was born in Warren PA more years ago than I care to
admit, but I am still here and still trying to continue the Family History
my Mother started several years ago.
All the data I have shows my branch of the Champions is in Pennsylvania.
My Mother used to work at the Census Bureau in the 50's and 60's. She did
a lot of searching during her lunchtime. She passed away 11 years ago and
my Dad gave me all her notes. There are several copies of Census cards as
far back as 1850.
There are also many little scraps of paper with names and dates. I have
been sorting and studying these and I think I have gotten a lot of
information straightened out.
Through the internet I was fortunate to find cousins in New York State,
Texas and Pennsylvania. They have been very helpful.
I signed on to the Champion List hoping to add to my understanding of the
Family.
My Grandmother was Emma Malinda Champion Greenawalt (b 11/21/1875-d
10-9-1937). Her birthplace was Poke Township, Jefferson County, PA.
My Great Grandfather was John Stephen Champion (b 3/2/1839-d 8/19/02), he
was married #2 (4/30/1874) to Angeline Elizabeth Kirkland (b 12/6/1854-d
2/3/1939). John had two sisters (Nancy J. and Mary and one brother Thomas.
Both John and Tom served on the Pennsylvania 105th Vols. during the Civil
War. Both were wounded but survived.
My Great Great Grandparents were James Franklin Champion (b 1815) and
Mariah Polly Dorworth (b 1822). The 1850 Census listed they as living in
Union Township, Jefferson County, PA.
Most of the Champions I see on the Champion List seem to be from Virginia
or points South. I don't know where my Champion Bunch started. It is
possible they went North looking for work in the lumbering business. I
have no data.
I would really appreciate any information anyone in contact with this List
could give me. Do any of these names sound familiar to anyone?
Many thanks,
Ken
