Hi Jan,
The only dates I have relating to Nathaniel Champion are relative.
His daughter(My great grandmother) was born in 1832 which means
he was alive 9 months before that and hopefully, married. Also,
I have not found him in the 1850 US Census of NJ, although I did find
the following family in Galloway Twp., Atlantic County, NJ, Reel M432-442
Page 67:
14 498 508 Champion Mary 53 F W

15 498 508 Champion Caroline 27 F W

16 498 508 Champion Elmer 25 M W Seaman

17 498 508 Champion Daniel 20 M W Seaman
NJ
18 498 508 Champion Mary J. 17 F W

19 498 508 Champion Ezra 15 M W Farming

Could Head of Household - Mary, age 53 be the widow of Nathaniel?
IF Emeline came from this family, she would fit between Daniel and Mary J.,
but could have already
been married at Census time or not here for some other reason. Could she
have left before marriage?
Does anyone recognize this family?
"Ruth says she sometimes found her Champions written as CAMPION."
H. Clifford CAMPION, a genealogist from Philadelphia, did extensive research
on CAMPION/CHAMPION in NJ.
His notes are in posession of the Cape May County Genealogical Association,
where Ruth Crawley Champion
abstracted much data for her book. It must have been quite a task. She
probably had to hand-copy, since
I believe that collection was not allowed to be machine-copied at the time
she was there, due to copyright concerns.
This may no longer be the case.
Did she credit him in her book?
