Jan,
My Great Grandfather was John Stephen Champion (1839-1902). He was married
twice: #1 Sara Catherine Schaffer (1851-1872), #2 was Angeline Elizabeth
Kirkland (1854-1939). John S Champion had a brother Thomas James Champion
(1841- ). There were also two sisters, Nancy Jane Champion (1847-1948) and
Mary Ann Champion (1846- ). Their parents were James Franklin Champion
( 1815-1888) and Mariah Polly Dorworth (1812-1894). The 1850 Census lists
the family as living in Union Township, Jefferson County, PA.
I know John and Thomas were very common Champion names but I was wondering
if this group was mentioned in Ruth Crawley's Champion Book?

Subject: [CHAMPION] CHAMPION, Elizabeth, of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ
>From Ruth Crawley Champion's book, p 14: "Elizabeth
Ingersoll, widow of

Champion, whose brothers were John, Thomas, and Elias. Daniel
Ingersoll
purchased of them 400 acres of land. (The author has been unable to
trace this
relationship." Ruth didn't have any name of that Thomas
Champion's wife.
She says this Thomas Champion was eldest son of John Champion and Sarah
Williams. He born c1675 in Queens Co LI, d c1731/32 in Gloucester Co.
NJ.
"Will, divided among his 3 sons and 1 daughter; one son to care
for his
wife, but
did not give her name. Deed Book K p 314, 3 May 1733." Ruth
says
Thomas and
XX were married c1702/03. Their children were
Thomas Champion c1707 ("May have gone to NC; sold land inherited from
his

Family moved from LI to Great Egg Harbor about 1719. "His father had
moved
to West Jersey in 1700 and many friends and relatives from Long
Island had
settled in the eastern part of Gloucester County."
I'm always eager to learn more about all my folks.
Thanks.
