I haven't done any research on our English Champion roots but am told that
our emigrant ancestor, Thomas Champion, of Ashford, Sandwich County, England,
"did sail 12th of March for the plantation called New England on the sailing
ship HERCULES bound for the land known as America" in 1634. There was a record
of the passengers on the ship having certificates from the ministers where
they last dwelt in England, so Thomas Champion had a certicicate from Edm.
Hayes, Vicar of Ashford, 21 March 1634, as did a servant who sailed with him.
These Champions were Quakers, at least in America, and quite possibly were
Quakers in England. The Quakers in America kept monthly meeting minutes that give
lots of useful information. I don't know about English records. Sorry.
Happy hunting.
