Hello, I recently joined the list also. The family
that I am researching is the family of Joseph Champion
from Brunswick and Columbus counties in North
Carolina.
Joseph Champion was born circa 1835 in NC and died
between 1900-1910. He married Martha Ann Smith from
Brunswick County, NC born circa 1840 and died after
1910.
From North Carolina troops, 1861-1865 : a roster
compiled by
Louis H. Manarin, found at the New Hanover
County Library:
"Joseph Champion, Private
Born in Brunswick County where he resided as a farmer
prior to enlisting in New Hanover County at age 26,
June 24, 1861, for the war. Captured at Roanoke Island
on February 8, 1862. Exchanged in August, 1862.
Present of accounted for until captured at Fort
Harrison, Virginia, September 30, 1864. Confined at
Point Lookout, Maryland, until paroled and transferred
to Venus Point, Savannah River, Georgia, where he was
received November 15, 1864, for exchange."

Alice Catherine born circa 1859 married DJ Byrd
Joseph Howard born circa 1864
Martha born circa 1867
Atlas Grandy born circa 1870 married Mary C Wood
