Hi,
My Champion is Jacob Shadrach, from Lancaster, SC. I cannot find anything
else about the family. Is anyone out there in this line?
Thanks,
Pat

Hi,
Your story of "Champion" as a middle name is indeed intriguing.
My Champion line, from my great great grandparents Hugh and
Levinia...Central City, Colorado had only one male, of their 10
children, that lived to carry on the family name.
He died after the birth of his 3 children. There was just one son.
His wife then remarried and Levinia begged the new husband to not
change the sons last name so that the Champion name might continue.
Levinia died not knowing if her wish was fulfilled. I located that
family in the Pacific Northwest and have visited them. They were not
fully aware of their heritage so it was a wonderful connection for both of
us.
I am aware of most all the descendants of Hugh and Levinia and not
one used "Champion" as a middle name or even included it in their married
name.

Thanks Dennis for providing some activity on the list. Belong is my
possible Champion connection.
After 30 years of research, I still haven't found the reason Champion
appeared as a middle name in my family. I suspect it is a family
surname, but I
still haven't found the connection. Joel's two older siblings have a
middle
name from his mother's McMillan family.
Joel Champion Nutter was born in Livonia, Livingston Co., NY 6 July 1821.
His parents were Thomas D. Nutter from New Hampshire and Eleanor McMillan
from Vermont, even though her family's migration pattern had been from
New
Hampshire to Sharon, Windsor Co., Vermont about 1790 and then to
western
New
York about 1805.
Joel married 1) Betsy Bullock and 2) Amelia (Swift) Welton. Joel and his
first wife lived in Vinland, Winnebago Co., Wisconsin at the time of the
1850
census. They later settled in Montcalm Co., Michigan. He died in
St.
Ignace, MI 7 Aug 1902 outliving both of his wives.
One of his sons was named Joel Champion Nutter, Jr. who settled in
Longview, WA.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has a Champion ancestor in western New
York or a Joel Champion in their line.
