Early Champions seem to have concentrated in a couple of geographic areas in
America:
Henry Champion from England, 1647 to Saybrook, CT and 1670 to Lyme CT.
I found lots of books devoted to this family.
Richard Champion, age 19, 1634 to the mouth of the James River in VA;
about
10 different Champions settled near Jamestown, VA. Descendants settled
in
NC and KY.
Thomas Champion of Kent, Ashford, England, March 1634 to Long Island,
descendants to "West Jersey". These folks are the focus of Ruth
Crawley
Champion's book. (Some of these went west to Ohio and Illinois; mine
left
NJ in 1846 to settle in Sangamon Co. IL.)
I also seem to recall a lot of Champions in the 1600s who settled for a time
on some island like Nassau or Bermuda (it was a long time ago that I was
looking) before some of them headed west to America. And maybe a later
batch to Texas via Galveston harbor....
Undoubtedly there were lots more Champions who came later and settled all
over the place.
Happy hunting.
