Fred Herbert Champion 1881-1936 KS m. Eleanor Slawson 1909. He was s/o
Smith Champion 1835-1916 (Tuckahoe NJ to Sangamon Co IL to Jefferson Co KS)
m. Nancy Jane Shirley 1862 KS. He was s/o
William Champion b 1799 (bTuckahoe NJ, moved to Sangamon Co. IL c1849, to
Jefferson Co. KS in old age) died KS 1875, m. Experience Ingersoll .
William was s/o:
Rev. Joseph Champion 1768-1828 who m. Sarah Smith. He is buried at Head of
the River Cem. Tuckahoe NJ. I would like more information about him. He is
s/o:
Nathaniel Champion (1741-1775/77 NJ, who m. Catherine Scull 7/4/1762 "by
Governor's license (whatever that may mean). Nathaniel is s/o :
John Champion b1705 or 6 d 1766 whose 2d wife was Elizabeth Boone m
5/22/1740. Gloucester Co. NJ. Need more information Don't have his mother's
name. His father is:
Thomas Champion Sr. b1675 d 1730/32 don't have wife's name. Moved from
Queens Co LI to Gloucester Co NJ. His parents are:
John Champion & Sarah Williams (first wife). John b. c1647/8 d 1727.
Orig. Hempstead LI, moved to West Jersey in 1700. This John is s/o:
Thomas Champion (original emigrant) b c1615 in Ashford, Kent, Sandwich
County. Sailed on ship Hercules of Sandwich 1634. Married Frances Jacocks
c1642 Hempstead Long Island. Died Hempstead Long Island 1682. Identified
as resident & property owner Hempstead as early as 1655. I do not (alas)
have parents for him.
Most of my information on Champions earlier than William 1799 comes from Ruth
Crawley Champion's book. Later than that comes from our own family records.
This week I've been over to Jefferson County KS to decorate the graves of
William & Experience and the later Champions in my line.
I hope somebody else on this list has Champions that tie in with mine.
