Hello Everyone,
As we approach the new year, I wanted to pass along something to all of
you. Cliff Fiveash, our list owner, has assured me that rootsweb's
mailing lists are as safe as possible. Because most of these viruses
come in through attachments, none should filter their way into our
mailings because rootsweb does not allow any attachments to be delivered
to it's mailing lists.
The best advice Cliff or I can give you is simply three hints. First,
do not open any attachment that is suspicious to you; ie... something
from someone that you don't know, etc. Secondly, get a virus scanning
program (such as Norton Anit-Virus) and USE the program. Thirdly, don't
panic and fall victim to the many scams out there :-)
It might be a good idea to 'back-up' your genealogy information. I try
to remember to do this occasionally but know that's I'm way too lax on
keeping everything backed-up.
I would also like to point out that we may have newcomers to our lists
in the next couple of weeks. Many people were surprised to see
computers under their Christmas tree and they will soon be surfing the
net :-) Please remember to be patient with any 'newbie' to our lists.
Here's hoping you all have a safe and Happy New Year :-)
Regards,
Nancy E Parr---Hostess
