Interesting. Does the CHAMPION ancestry include southern New Jersey?
Lavinia was the name of one of the daughters of my great grandparents,
Emeline CHAMPION b 1832 & Charles SMITH b 1829.
Emeline lived near Tuckahoe, NJ, daughter of Nathaniel CHAMPION and
M. LAYTON. One of her grandmothers is alleged to be Native American
(Lenni Lenape / Delaware). Charles was born in Philadelphia but it appears
his great grandparents were Richard SMITH and Hanna SOMERS of the
Cape May / Somers Point area of southern NJ. His grandfather, Daniel, was
orphaned at an early age and went to the Philadelphia area with his uncle,
where he married Elizabeth SHUTE.
Unfortunately, I have no more CHAMPION data. If anyone is interested
in the SHUTE, SMITH, SOMERS lines, please contact me, or post your
replies here if they imply CHAMPION connections, so all who have interest
can benefit.
