Claudia Day:
Thank you for posting the Champions in Grand Rapids. My connection to the
Champions is quite remote. I descend from Thomas D. Nutter who was born in
NH in 1787 and died in Cannon Township, Kent Co, MI 1851. He named one of
his sons Joel Champion Nutter. I have not found Thomas's father or mother
and I think because of the Champion middle name, there must be a tie to the
Champion
family.
The other sons were named John McMillan Nutter (Thomas's wife was Eleanor
McMillan and her father was John McMillan). The second son was William
Wooster Nutter. I don't know where the William came from but Wooster
McMillan was Eleanor's brother's name). The third son was Joel Champion
Nutter. He was born in 1821 the same time period as the family buried in
Walker. The fourth son was Daniel T. Nutter (which I think the T. stood for
Thomas). Anyway they all ended up in Kent Co., MI. This line was
Presbyterian. Have you run across the Nutter surname in your Champion
research?
