Once again,I ERRED. [As did grandma]I didn't see,or,at least,remember
seeing, Sarah
Collings. Could Cloak be Soay Sooy?
We're 8-10" short of rainfall just east of Cincinnati. The same
Cincinnati's
whose downtown had a big rainfall the other evening reducing chance
of riot.
Soybeans are in,and just up,and May 10th,1966,I lost a huge fruit
crop of big peaches and apples to freeze. So,it was possible for the
beans to
be in,up,and frozen to death.
I spaded early ,my garden to ridges, expecting at least once to get
ground wet,so I could cover ridges with black plastic. No rain,no
plastic,
few vegetables, many tall weeds. Early garden is fine, though. .A
Champion !
You CHAMPION-L researchers. I once had
1500 peach trees. 25 varieties. And the best flavored,by far,was a white
mid-
season, old fashioned, and poorly colored variety called "CHAMPION!"
James Blackman m Elizabeth Champion. 1815 NJ shore to sw Ohio.
1825-50 era,James BLACKMAN was the Methodist class leader for downtown
Cincinnati, then moved near north a few miles near READING-LOCKLAND,Oh.
I'll take a wild guess, and say his Champion wife died of
Cholera,1848-50,and
was buried in Wesleyian, mid Cincinnati,-a cemetary whose owner has been
indited
for poor care.

Hi Herm, Jan and List,
I meant to get David Blackman's will transcribed, but the farming
season
kicked in here and I've been VERY busy. David Blackman is the
father of
James and Sarah. Here's a few excerpts from the part of the will
that's
easy to read. Some of it's illegible.
"Also I give and bequeth unto my three sons, Andrew, David and
Thomas all my
Ceder Swamp on the Branch of Powell Creek......Also I give and
bequeth unto
my two daughters Aner Somers and Susannah Scull all my moveble or
personal
estate equelly....Also I give and bequeth unto my two sons Andrew
and David
all the lands I have not ???? before on the Northerly side of the
road
leading.......Also I give my beloved son James Blackman and my
daughter
Sarah Collings five dollars each in addition of what they have
already
received. Also I give unto my three daughters Mary Cloak, Aner
Somers, and
Susannah Scull fifty dollars each in addition.....sums of money is
to be
paid by my three sons Nehemiah, Andrew and David Blackman to them
the said
James, Sarah, Aner, Mary and Susannah......executors of this my last
will
and testement Nehemiah Blackman and Andrew B. Blackman my two sons
afore
said." The will is witnessed by Abel English, David Blackman, Sarah
Scull
and John Steelman. Another paragraph written below the will that I
haven't
deciphered yet is signed by Nehemiah Blackman and Andrew B.
Blackman.
So the will lists all the children of David Blackman as David,
Nehemiah,
Andrew B., James, Thomas, Susannah, Aner, Sarah, and Mary. Samuel
Learner
Blackman had died already when this will was written. I have his
daughter,
Mary, married to Thomas Ireland. But the will definitely says
"Cloak".
It's not Clark, like David's wife's maiden name. The "k" could be
something
else, but most resembles a "k". A Mary Blackman married a Thomas
Ireland in
Craig's "Gloucester Co. Marriage Records", Sep. 29, 1797. I've also
been
told Mary Blackman died in 1797, but that's wrong because she was
surely
alive when the will was recorded in 1821. Maybe she married twice?
I'm
fairly certain that David's daughter, Sarah, was married to Rev.
John
Collins even though her father said she was a "Collings". I have
Sarah
Blackman born Sep. 5, 1776, Gloucester Co., NJ, and died Dec. 2,
1863. I
have for the children of James Blackman and Elizabeth Champion:
Caroline m. Rev. Samuel A. Latta
Mary, b. Nov. 30, 1807, d. Mar. 11, 1886 m. Rev. Wesley McClain (no
Nichols)
Ruhama, b. Nov. 30, 1807, d. Apr. 12, 1873 m. Savil Justice
Lewis V., b. Sep. 10, 1810, d. 1894, Washburn, Illinois, m. Sophia
Swayze
I have not proved any of those dates or marriages as yet. I hope
this
helps. Mary
