But so far no luck. I can't seem to get any further back than 1839, which is
when William came to America. His great grandfather or 2x great was Pierre
Champion who fled frnace and went to what was then Prissia. But I can't get
anything on him anywhere.

Sorry, but there's nothing on any Champions who came over later
than the
1600s. She was basically following her line and her husband's--they both
were Champion descendants. We were just lucky enough to be part of the
collateral descendants she listed, and she left off with our line in 1840!
