Subject: [CHAMPION] Samuel Levi LANHAM and Martha CHAMPION
I've made a little progress in census records tracking down my
Samuel Levi
LANHAM (born c1847 KY). I now believe he is the Samuel (age 4) in the
Asberry LANHAM household in Marion Co KY in 1850. Asberry is age 40, his
wife is Sarah age 23. Then in 1860 Springfield, Washington Co KY, I
believe
Samuel is Samuel L. LANHAM, age 13, in the household of Sarah LANHAM,
age
32.
This suggests to me that Asberry died in the 1850-1860 decade. Also
in
this
1860 household is a Barbara MEADOWS (age 62), who is a day laborer.
Was
Barbara MEADOWS the mother of Sarah? I understand Barbara MEADOWS was the
mother of a Susan who married Pius G. LANHAM. I believe Pius is a proven
son
of Levi LANHAM. Were Pius and Asberry brothers, and Barbara MEADOWS
the
mother-in-law to both of them?
I haven't located Samuel in the 1870 census. I'm wondering if his mother
Sarah might have remarried by then, making Samuel a little more difficult
to
find.
In 1873, Samuel Levi LANHAM married Martha CHAMPION at St. Rose Roman
Catholic Church in Springfield, KY. I'm still trying to place Martha in a
CHAMPION household in 1860 and 1870 (probably Washington or Marion County),
and would appreciate any help from CHAMPION researchers there.
By 1880, Samuel and Martha are in Monroe Co MO, with a growing family.
Asberry LANHAM is reported to me to be a son of Levi LANHAM, born 1770s.
Can
someone tell me the source of that information?
