Hello from Illinois,
My Champions are all from Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Maine.
Having trouble getting information prior to John (1).
(1)John Champion (1782-1871) Barbara Warren
(2)John Champion (1814-1902) Mary Murphy
James Champion (1838-1928) Alicia Heaney
John Thomas Champion (1869-1933) Blanche Sanborn
Helen Z. Champion (1897-1973) Alexander Everett Wilson

Robert Champion Wilson Jr (1945- ) ME
My ancestor is Cuthbert Champion, b. bef. 1756, d. 14 Oct 1823, Fluvanna
Co., VA. I've read that he married Elizabeth Williamson, but have not
verified her name. They had at least three children:
1) Frances Champion, b. 1775, m. 1796, Elijah Bledsoe.
2) John Champion, m. 1804, Rebecca Woodson.
3) Elizabeth Champion, b. 1783, d. 1850, m. 1802, Benjamin Anderson, Jr.
I am desc. through Cuthbert's daughter, Elizabeth. Elizabeth and her
husband Benjamin Anderson had at least 7 children. Their daughter, Judith M.
Anderson married William M. Appleberry, and I descend from them. All these
folks lived in Fluvanna Co., Virginia.
I'm looking for the parents of Cuthbert Champion, and also his wife,
Elizabeth Williamson. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Rebecca Appleberry
These are my Champions, I'm still stuck with Stephen CHAMPION born apprx

I forwarded your other message on to a lady who is a CHAMPION by birth. She
is checking her resources as she says you are indeed part of our CHAMPIONs
in Mercer and Washington County, Kentucky.
Give her a little time...she is a teacher and is finishing up the last week
before Christmas vacation.
Thanks, Jan
P.S. I am descended from CHAMPIONs in the above counties also but she lives
in the vicinity so has roots that go WAY back! My ancestor died in
Washington County in 1811.

Hello
Mine are English, although family folk lore has it (unproven) that they
arrived in England from France with William the Conqueror

James,
I don't know about the others, but my Champions were French Huguenots. they
descend from William Frank Champion, who was the first to come to America
in 1839. His ancestor was Pierre Champion who escaped from France and went
to Keltze, Germany/Prussia.

I have a couple of quick questions for the "owner" of the CHAMPION Family
Rootsweb List. I recently learned that my great-grandmother Martha LANHAM was
born a CHAMPION, c1851 KY. This surname is completely new to me.
Can you tell me how many members this list has?
And can you give me a 25-words or less description of the family origins.
Namely, are these folks of French ancestry? Or possibly English? Where and
when do they first appear in this country?
Thanks.

Hello CHAMPION cousins,
I've learned in the past week that my great-grandmother, known to me
previously only as Mrs. Martha LANHAM, started life c1851 as Martha Ellen
CHAMPION. She married Samuel Levi LANHAM on 11 NOV 1873 at St. Rose Roman
Catholic Church in Springfield, Washington Co KY. (Thanks to the LANHAM
researchers who shared this with me.)
By 1880, this LANHAM couple was in Indian Creek, Monroe Co MO. In 1900, they
were in Neosho Co KS. Thereafter, Samuel may have died in Sedalia, Pettis Co
MO, though I'd like to confirm that.
Can anyone help me locate Martha Ellen in a CHAMPION household in earlier
census records? I suspect she just missed the 1850 enumeration. In 1860 she
was likely 8 to 10 years. In 1870 she was likely 18 to 20 years. My first
thought would be that this CHAMPION household might appear in Washington or
Marion County, KY, but that's just a guess.
Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
