Listers,
We have recently tracked down my husbands great-grandfather, but unfortunately have hit a
huge brick wall with him. Does anyone recognise this gentleman, or have ideas on how to
trace him further?
His name was Charles Champion, and the transcript of his death states that when he died in
1900 at 63 he had spent some years in New Zealand, followed by about 40 years in NSW. He
had born in England (no further place details given), and no parents names. From the age
at death, I calculate that he was born around 1842, and went to Australia (from New
Zealand) around 1860.
In Australia, he married Jane Flanagan in 1871, and the transcript of their marriage gives
no further details of him apart from that he was a labourer. They married in a church in
Wooloomooloo, NSW (I have a few details on this, but need to track the register down
still)
How do I find out how and when he left England, and where he left from? I'm sure he
would be on the censii in the UK, but need to find the town first!!
