The only Charles Champagne currently in my genealogy was born about 1840 and obviously
isn't your grandfather. Champagne is a common surname; I have no idea if you're
related. My Champagnes were found mostly in Lafourche Parish. Many are buried in the St.
Eloi Catholic Church cemetery in Theriot, LA. Some are also buried near Houma, LA. Fr
Donald J. Hebert, a Jesuit priest, researched the Cajuns of Louisiana and wrote/published
almost 100 genealogical works based compilations of various church records. You can borrow
most on interlibrary loan service. This is the main source of my Cajun genealogy. Also,
check this website if you're interested in starting your genealogy search:
http://www.lafourcheparish.jwebre.com/ There are volunteers who do lookups and can help
you find records on your family if you can provide their names, dates and places of birth
and death. You can also browse the church cemetery lists. Another excellent source in the
LA GENWEB site where you can browse!
