Ferlandc1:
That's interesting. I believe that Jean-Baptiste and Genevieve were my
great-grandparents as well. Their granddaughter, Clara, was my mother.
Here's what I have found in the 1990 U.S. federal census. The family is listed as
living in Jefferson, Montana. Children included Alfred, born in 1888 in Canada; Laura,
born in 1890 in Rhode Island; and Flora, born in 1891 in Montana. Other children born in
Montana were Sybil, (1892); Albert (1894); Rosie (1896); Alexander (1898); and Marie
(1900). (Sybil is listed as a female, but I believe the name should be Alsybil, a
male.Albert is probably Alberic.) The census lists Narcisse as a teamster. I think he
worked in the mines in Montana, but I don't have much detail.
The family moved to Strathcona, N.W.T., Canada in 1902. Strathcona is now the south side
of Edmonton, Alberta. Five more children were born in Alberta: Clara (1902); Narcisse (or
Nelson), about 1904; Antoinette about 1905; Germaine about 1907; and Edouard, born in
1909.
I can provide a bit more detail about the family in Alberta.
I am interested in hearing about the family in that 1880 to 1900 period. Why did they go
to the U.S., and why did they return? Were they looking for work?
Any detail would be appreciated. You could either post the information on this forum or
mail me at jimbradley(a)shaw.ca.
Merci.

I have found the marriage of Narcisse Champagne (Beaugrand) to
Lea Pelland in West Warwick Jan. 7 , 1888. He was the son of
Jean-Baptiste Champagne and Geneviève Bellerose, who had
migrated to Rhode Island in 1880. They were the great-grand-
parents of my wife, Michelle Coutu. They moved back to P. of
Québec around 1894, and are buried in St-Camille-de-Wolfe, east
of Sherbrooke. Glad to have infos about Narcisse moving to
Montana. Do you have some more about their life there? I can
give you more to about the Champagne history around 1880-1900.
