I know there is a plaque in Bath Abbey with the name Chamness on it. I do
have a picture somewhere.

Hiya... I have only just come across this site and am VERY interested in
your message... My maiden name is Joanne Chamness and I live in england.
For years i have know i had a rare surname but have always wondered how
rare. I know that Chamness is a popular name in America but I am not from
America and as far as am aware our blood line has always been in the uk.
I would love somehow to find out if the Chamnesses in the UK nowdays have
come here from america or if they are English Chamnesses and therefore
have a chance of being distant relatives.... When Anthony was taken i
wonder if he had some famlily that stayed here and continued the name... i
have also been told that the name originated from around William the
Conqurer, apparently there was a lord Chamness he had with him!!
