Hi Karen -
If Nancy Chambliss (b. 1782, according to Roark Records) is not a part of that particular
family, then neither is Stephen Chambliss who m. Amy McCartney 1810 in Madison Co.,
Alabama. The fact that Lucinda Roark went home with cousin Joel H. Chambliss, and
Lucinda's mentioning Elizabeth, Nancy (a daughter of Stephen's), and others listed
in most Chambliss Records is good enough for me. Sure, Nancy may have been married
before, adopted, or etc. So could many of the others. Karen, if the truth were known,
there are a lot of 1/2 sister, cousins, and others in records. Also, not trying to be
tacky, but some children were fathered out of wedlock while a couple was married. How do
we document that? It sure happens.
John Roark (1773, NC) owned land on both sides of the line dividing TN and AL. I have
deed copies of such. The boundary changed or wasn't very clear before these areas
became states. John paid taxes in AL (Jackson Co. and Madison Co.). Stephen Chambliss
raised his family in Madison Co. after many of his siblings moved to Marshall Co. area, AL
back when Alabama was a part of the Mississippi Territory, Chickasaw Nation.
I'm sorry you feel this way about Nancy Chambliss. If you think that all of your data
is totally documented on your site, then you must be very naive. I'm sorry I feel
that way but I do. There is no database of family trees that is not filled with errors.
Women were touchy abt. their age. They often recorded different birth dates for
themselves in Bibles. So, just because something has been recorded by a family member in
the Bible doesn't mean it is 100% accurate.
We'll consider the matter closed. Not knowing actual facts, and not having personally
met Nancy Chambliss, I will continue to leave her as is in my records. I have a year of
birth and a date of death for Nancy. John Chambliss' daughter, Mary, from Darlington
Co., SC has neither. Sorry I feel this way but I do. Besides, it doesn't make a
rat's behind one way of the other. Thank you for your time.
Doug Roark
