Someone indicated "Chamblee" was from Chamblee, France. Actually there were a
FEW places named Chambly in France. One can't attribute a clan of people from a town
because it holds it's name, it's more complicated than that.
You can isolate old parrish records in England and find the Chambly, Chamlee, Chamblee,
Chamly, Chamley, Shamley families in 1600's. That is the ONLY thing I know for sure,
that they existed at this time in England.
Various research in early early Canada and in Europe yield little truth because genealogy
is always done going backwards in time and not skipping generations and making leaps,
false conclusions could be hatched.
The Chambliss name is interesting. It is in early Virginia as everyone knows and some
(like myself) after having lookiing at various records think the Chambliss/Chamblee name
was used interchangeably from time to time. Thus, the Chamblee families in the U.S. (every
spelling, all related) could have been born from early counties in Virginia. There is 1812
War record destruction in pivotal counties, so it's hard to know.
There was much flipflopping of all names through generations, spellings and lineages were
not stagnant.
