See my messages to you on the Ancestry message board atop your Ancestry home page. Also,
if you have not done so, you might consider checking with the National Archives and
Records Administration (NARA) in Washington, D.C., for a pension record for your William
Thomas Chambliss. He was a Civil War casualty with dependents; therefore, his family may
have applied for a pension. If so, the sworn affidavit accompanying the application may
contain the information about his parents which you desire.
I also strongly suggest that land deeds in Pope County, Illinois (grantors and grantees),
in the name of Chambliss be reviewed for the period from about 1820 to 1865. Sometimes
these land deeds are very revealing with respect to how farmers came by their land.
Records in Pope County might also reveal further information not available upon the
internet. The county clerk in Pope County has marriage and land records from 1816, probate
records (wills and estate settlements) from 1816, Civil War militia rolls. Sometimes, the
County Clerk can identify a local person willing to do a review of records for a fee.
You can contact the Pope County Clerk at:
Pope County
P. O. Box 216
Galconda, Illinois 62938-0216
618-683-4466
If you go to Pope County, check the county library for genealogical records.
Good luck with your search.
