Chambliss and Mary Walton Ledbetter. I am going to dig out some records and see
what else I have on this family.

From the Forsyth Advertiser of yesterday. M. Zachariah Chambliss,
aged 96
years,is the oldest inhabitant of this county. He lives in Deer creek,
about
seven miles east of Forsyth, where he settled about fifty years ago, when this
thrifty and populas section was covered with primitive forest, and the wild
deer and Indians roamed free over the native hills.
Zachariah's will names his children.
1860 Monroe Co. GA Census lists Zachariah age 85.
Monroe Co. Ga. Deed Book A pg 88-89 - 3 Sept 1822 - In obedience to awrit of
feri facias issued out of a Justice's Court of Laures Co, the suit of Joel
Cory against John Dean, William and Henry Britton, John Curetor, sheriff of
Monroe Co. did seize the property of said John Dean and sold to Zachariah
Chambless the highest bidder for $1051.00,202 1/2 acre, Lot 110 in the 13 district of
Monroe Co. Signed John Curetor sheriff. Wit: Isaac Welch, C.W. Raines J.I.C.
Recorded 9-5-1822 - Same book pg 17-18 - William Purifore of Putnam County
to Zachariah Chambless of Baldwin co, for $625.00, Lot 160 in the 13th district
of Monroe Co. 22 Jan 1822. Sign: William (X) Purifore Wit:John Evans, Levi
Justice, and Dempsy Justice.
Recorded 3 June 1822. Same book pg 83-84 - Wheras I Zachariah Chambless
having purchase of William Purifore Lot 180 in the 13th district of Monroe County
and thesaid Purifore having made title to me and whereas the said lot hasbeen
since sold at sheriff sale to satisfy judgemnets and I have purchased but the
said Purifore paid the purchase money for me and the sheriff having made the
deed to me, now i do hereby relinquish all claim, demand, and right against

Last Will and Testament of Zachariah Chambliss - Transcribed from Photostat

Georgia: Monroe County
In the name of God Amen, I, Zachariah Chambless of the State and County
aforesaid calling to mind the certainty of life and the certainty of death do
hereby make, constitute and appoint this to be my last will and testament, thereby
revoking all others and former wills made by me at any time here-to-fore. And
as regards the worldly estate that it has pleased God to entrust me with, I
do hereby dispose of in the following manner.
Item 1st: My will and desire is that all of my justs debts be paid as soon
as possible by my executors out of the first money that shall come into their
hands from any portion of my estate, real or personal. And I also direct that
a fair valuation or appraisement be made of all my estate.
Item 2nd: Whereas, I have here-to-form given to some of my children more than
others as may be seen by an account I have kept of the same in a book. My
will and desire is that my executors make up to those that have received less
equal to those that have more except my son Joel whose children shall be in his
stead. And then all the rest and residence of my estate both real and
personal not herein or otherwise disposed of, may be disposed of as is hereafter
directed. In order to carry into effect my will and intentions, I do hereby vest
my executors full and ample power to either sell or divide otherwise as they
may deem to be best interest and advantage of my estate. And my will and
desire is that as soon as convenient all my estate not disposed herein before
disposed of shall be distributed in the following manner, (viz.) To my son, John,
to the children of my son Alexander, Son Edward, Son Timothy, each one tenth
part of distribution share. To the children of Joel, one tenth part not subject
to the payment of any of my son's debts. And my will is that my son Joel
have a support or maintenance during his natural life.
Item 3rd: I give and bequeth unto my daughter Selina and her children one
tenth part or equal distribution share, my daughter Sally now Durham and her
children one tenth part. And my wish and will is that it shall not be subject to
any contract made by Durham, her husband. And to my daughter Verlinda's
children one tenth part and my will is that the same as coming to Beonca E. V.
McKinley my granddaughter remain here during her life so that no debts, contracts
can take it. My daughter Nancy Wright and her children one tenth part or
equal distribution share not subject to pay any of Joseph W. Wright's debts, it
to be for her support and maintenance and her children. And my daughter
Rebecca Bryant and her children one tenth part and it to be wholly for their support
and use to share and share alike.
Item 5th: I hereby wish to name what I wish the two daughters of my son
Alexander, Mary McKinney, my granddaughter, the part which may come to her not to
pay any contracts made or that may be made by him hereafter for it is to be
hers and her childrens. Also Nancy Jones, granddaughter of mine to be her part
in the same like manner for it cannot be spent for any debts contracted or
that may be contracted hereafter but to be for her and her children after her.
Item 6th: I do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my esteemed sons,
John and Edward Chambless my executors to carry into effect this, my last will
and testament. In witness wherof I, Zachariah Chambliss, Testator, here unto
set my hand and seal this 17th day of January 1850.
