Joel CHAMBLISS was born in 1756. He died in 1817 in Granville County, NC.
He served in the military in American Revolutionary War - North Carolina.

Northhampton Co. to Oliver Day of Brunswick Co. Va. 6 Dec 1779 200 Va. 200 acres on

Joel lived in Granville County, North Carolina. He married Mary Bailey in
1777 in Brunswick County, Virginia. He was a Corporal in the Light Dragoons in
the North Carolina Troops during the Revolutionary War. Sources: Index to

American Revolution.
Joel's will dated December 12, 1816 and probated in Granville County, North
Carolina in the November court of 1817 names his children by name. (Twitty,
Henry, Robert, Elizabeth Wilkins, Ota Waller, Lucy, and Polly Susannah Gooch).
The exact date of Joel's death is not known but by the following deeds we can
assume it was between Feb. 1, 1817 when he deeded the land to his sons and
when the will was probated in November court of 1917.
The date for Joel moving to North Carolina is not known, but in Deed Book O
pages 241 and 242, dated April 7, 1783 he bought land from George Lane Moore of
Granville Co. North Carolina. It appears that he first moved to Northhampton
Co. N. C. and from there to Granville, County.

Will of Joel Chambliss (Will Book 8, pg 84)
In the Name of God Amen, I Joel Chambliss of the county of Granville and
State of North Carolina being infirm in body but of Perfect mind and memory, do
make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, in manner and form following -
ITEM First of all my desire is, that at my decease all my lawful debts be
paid, and that each legatee pay an equal part thereof.
ITEM my desire is at my death, my son Henry Chambliss have one feather bed
and furniture, one cow and two yearlings, and one Dutch oven, in order to make
him equal with what I have given hither to my two sons Tuitty and Robert
Chambliss.
ITEM my desire is at my decease, that my beloved wife Mary Chambliss, have
all my Negroes, with The Tract of Land wheron I now live, with all my stock of
every description, with all my household and kitchen furniture of every
description, with all my plantation Tools, and Tools of every description, together
with my Waggon and Riding Chair, during her life or widowhood.
ITEM my desire is at the death of my wife, that all the Negroes, be euqlly
divided among my two sons and five daughters. To Wit, Robert, Henry, Elizabeth
Wilkins, & Ota Waller, Lucy & Polly, Susanna Gooch, and the heirs of Twitty
Chambliss, by valuation, unto them, and the lawful begotten heirs of their
Bodies forever.
ITEM My desire is at the death of my wife, that my daughter Lucy have a
horse of the value of Forty dollars, one Cow and Calf, Three sheep, and a Dutch
oven, and a side saddle, of the value of twelve dollars, also my Daughter
Polly, and Susanna the same, in order to make them equal with my other Daughters,
Elizabeth and Ota.
ITEM My desire is at my wifes decease or widowhood, that the Land and
Balance of Household furniture Stock of every description tools of every
description, with my Riding Cahir, be sold and the money arising from said sale, be
equally divided among my Daughters.
ITEM My desire is at my wifes death, or marriage, the wagon be divided
between Robert and Henry and the heirs of Tuitty Chambliss.
My desire is at my decease, and when the amount of a Judgmt, which I have
obtained against Dunman in Virginia, be collected after the heirs of Tuitty
Chambliss receives one hundred and ten dollars, and interest, and the expenses of
Tuitty Chambliss Relative to said suit, The balance go to the use of paying my
lawful debts, also the amt of a suit against Willis Harris, when collected, be
appropriated to the same use and if any balance remaining to be equally
divided among all my Children. I do hereby nominate and appoint Daniel Gooch
Executor and my wife Executrix to this my last Will and Testament in witness hereof
I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 12th day of December
1816

The Execution of the foregoing last Will and Testament of Joel Chambliss Decd
was duly proven on oath in open Court by John Green and Elijah Green the
subscribing Witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded at the same time came
forward Daniel Gooch. Esqr. Named as executor in said Will and duly qualified as
such.
Witness: Step. Sneed Clk.
He was married to Mary BAILEY (daughter of Robert BAILEY and Frances) on
December 24, 1777 in Brunswick Co., VA. Mary BAILEY was born about 1759 in VA.
She died in 1833 in Granville County, NC. The date of death for Mary is not
known but she appeared on the 1830 census and had apparently died by early 1833
as determined by a deed by Robert Chambless and one by Mary Chambliss to Susan
Gooch. Book 6 page 503 - 1 Feb. 1833 - Mary Chambliss to Suzen Gooches
children a negro girl Rilley purchased from Jas. T. Gooch 1820 -- if Susan have
more children than the six now living they to share equally. Mary (X) Chambliss
Witness: Hester Moore Proven by oath Hester Moore August 1835. This
indicates that she was alive at this time but a deed by Robert Chambliss to Jas.
Bullock on 7 day March 1833 indicates that she is dead. Book 6 page 66. This
establishes her death between Feb. 1 and March 7, 1833.
Georgia Wills - William Bailey Dec'd, Henry Bailey Administrator, Returned in
full, September 1825. Names Heirs, Robert Bailey , William Phillips, and
several others..... Anthony North signs receipt. Lenghty paper. Charles Cox
had a claim 1822, released to James Bailey, one of the heirs. Mary Chambliss one
of the heirs "being daughter of Robert who was brother of William dec'd.
Mary lived in Granville County, N.C.
