My Uncle just told me that He believes our Chambless line came from French Hugenots.
My first traceable Chambless was Ansel E. Chambless born about 1817 in New Jersery, died
1896 inHempstead County Arkansas.
He first married Elizabeth Kemp and had seven children
Sarah Jane, Elizabeth, Isabell, Nancy C., James Edward, Robert L.
After Elizabeth died he then married Susan Jones they had 4 children.
Laura. Ferelender, Thomas Dolplus Chambless, and John F. I decend from the second wife
Susan.
Can anyone give me clues where to start with the Hugenots and see if I can find more
clues.
According to hand written records from a long dead cousin. Ansel Father was James
Chambless.
Father & Mother (James Chambless & Jane Cluney) is only assumption & not
proven 1850 Census, Clark County
Document - James Chambless to Samuel Hillman
"This Indenture made the Eleventh day of March in the year of our Lord one
thousand and eight hundred and twenty eight Between James Chambless of the
township of Piles Grove in the County of Salem and State of New Jersey.
If anyone has any clues. I would love the help.
Annette
