Good work Paula!
A few more questions....
If you have a minute could you post exactly what the 1880 census said for the
entry below including exact date of the census, what post office/township,
what page, sheet, line 3, the exact ages of Johathan Smith and his wife, Mary
and all the columns to the end. Every detail counts, and I may want to pull
this myself and take a look at the neighbors.
I do not have an "M. Chamlee" per your question, but the fact that "M"
(sounds like a James Bond character), was born in Louisiana is interesting.
We know we can snoop around Louisiana for Chamlees.
I have copied ALL the census indice from 1790 to 1870 in the many states they
lived for Chamlee, Chamblee, all spellings, EXCEPT Louisiana.
All roads still leading back to the same families we talked about before. In
searching the database I found the same family we suspected before:
Jarrett Russell Chamlee (had a son Newton M. Chamlee, no info) Some children
and grandchildren of Jarrett Russell Chamlee resided in Louisiana.
The logical step would be to go to the 1870 census and pull ALL entries in
both states......but, you probalby did this arleady
------------------------------------------------
This couple resided in Louisiana are not linked to anyone;
Nannie [prob Nancy] Chamlee marr C. E. Williams 1906 in Polk Co Arkansas
"WILLIAMS, C.E., Mena, 24 - Miss Nannie Chamblee, Vivian, Caddo Parish, LA,
24 - 7 Sep 1906"
--------------------------
1880 Nevada Co Arkansas
Johathan Smith Head of household (age?)
Mary Smith wife (age?)
M. Chamlee WM aged 50 [born ca 1830] widowed born: Ark. Father b: Louisiana
Mother b.GA
Martha Chamlee aged 18 single, SLW born : Ark
Jake Chamlee aged 12 single, BLW born: Ark
The census stated that the relationship to Jonathan was M.as FLW, Martha as
SLW and Jake as BLW. Which I believe to be Father in law, Sister in law and
brother in law.
Abbreviations are close enough. The census taker didn't except used the
"manual":
"Son-In-Law - Sl" etc.
