I purchased the 1880 Census because even though the next-largest FHC after
Salt Lake is 2 miles away from me, it was still an ordeal to get someone off
the 1880 census.
There are 35 disks for the index, 53 of the other. This is an index of
EVERYONE in the 1880 census, so if you want to see the entire entry (and ALL
columsn in the 1880 are important) along with street, neighboorhood, you have
to consult the 1880 itself.
The 1880 Soundex (index to this census) was a WPA project and for some (dumb)
reason only families with a child 10 or younger were included on the Soundex.
Thus, if you want to find "other" people you have to go through the ENTIRE
county one by one. If you know the township, post office or neighborhood, it
makes it easier, but it really is a LONG LONG tedious many-day process. This
index makes it easier.
I'm just gettin the hang of this collection for the 1880, but I will be
uploading families to the list, esp. in areas where there are deadend lines
we can't connect.
If you want this collection, it is sold at cost only at $50. Go to
www.familysearch.org to order your copy.
