To all you descendents of Isham B. Chamblee who married Elizabeth Cockrell.
Here is something that has plagued me for quite awhile, thought I'd get
everyone's opinion.
First of all, do we agree that the enumeration below is Isham?

Isam CHAMBLY, Self, M, W, W, 54, SC-NC-SC, farmer
First of all, I'm not concerned that one census says he was born in NC and
another in SC. Depends who reported, how the enumerator heard it, etc. Hie
father, Lewis, was born in NC and migrated with relatives to SC for a stint.
The problem:
Many descendents have listed Samantha Chamblee as the daughter of Isham B.
Chamblee. Per the 1880 census she as born 1840. Of course, age reporting
censuses is almost fantasy at times, but one has to consider all
possibilities and look for proof of her "daughtership".
Samantha Chamblee married Thomas Monroe Driver. Some say she was "Samantha
Alice Chamblee" who also married a Gordon. Isham B. Chamblee's Civil War
pension file says he has a daughter "Alice Gordon". Per the 1870 census Alice
was 9 years old, and Samantha was 40 years old in 1880, so I don't think
there was a combination of "Samantha Alice Chamblee", it's mathematically
impossible.
Here she is in the 1880:

Questions:
1. Why have we never seen Samantha Chamblee in any census enumeration with
her parents?
2. The 1880 reports her being born 1840; Isham B. Chamblee married Elizabeth
Cockrell Jun 14 1847, Greene Co. AL. I'm assuming the 1880 census is way off,
or she was born 7 years before her parents married, OR, if she was a dau of
Isham, she was from a prior marriage or liaison? If she was indeed born in
1840 (and remember, per the 1880 she has a child who is 20--born ca
1860--then Isham would have been way too young to be her father, don't you
think?
