Am interested in the descendants of JOHN MARTIN CHAMLEE and even Martin
himself spelling the name "with a b" in the correspondence I/we have had
over the last couple of years. MARTIN CHAMLEE was the son of William
and Dorcas Sego Chamlee. William was the son of Jacob Chamlee born
1752, in whose family bible he wrote his name CHAMLEE (NO b). Why,
then, do all the papers we are getting on Martin Chamlee and his
descendants have the name spelled with the "b"? -- Did Martin CHANGE the
way he spelled his last name, and hence, all the surnames of his
offspring? Where is Martin Chamlee buried and how does his tombstone
read? Where are his male children buried and same question? HUMMMMMMMM
-- I find this pretty interesting since there were Chamlees and
Chamblees in the same adjoining counties in North Georgia and were
descended from different lines out of South Carolina. . .
I know, of course, that the name Chamlee and Chamblee were OFTEN and
REGULARLY misspelled, in particular CHAMLEE -- no one can ever believe
the name actually DOES NOT HAVE A "B" IN IT.
My CHAMLEE husband had a telephone call from a company a couple of weeks
ago who wanted to FAX him something. He spelled the name for the young
lady" C-h-a-m-l-double-ee" -- the FAX came address to CHAMLWEE.
Wonnerful, wonnerful. . .
The SEGO info is truly wonderful -- can hardly wait to "get into it" --
THANK YOU!
