Found a ref to a marriage for one Caroline Chamlee and Demarcus Sylvester
Cantrell with an estimated marriage date of 1854 in Forsyth Co GA. Shows
Cantrell children in this record, so I am assuming whoever worked on this
genealogy had inside Cantrell info to get all three names of "Demarcus". The
children are:
T.M. Cantrell b. 9 Oct 1865 of Forsyth Co GA
S.W. Cantrell b. 27 Jan 1868 ditto
Alice Cantrell, b 23 July 1870 ditto
I have one Mary Caroline Chamlee b. 10 Dec 1835 in Canton, Cherokee Co GA, dau
of T.P. Chamlee & Kindness with Mark Cantrell as spouse to Mary Caroline. I
have a note that says "they went west". (Is Forsyth Co GA considered
"west" to
you Southerners? ha ha..)
Now, what is odd about this are those "other" John Chamblee people in Forsyth
Co GA who I have never been able to hook to anyone. John was on the 1850 and
1860 census for Forsyth Co GA with an estimated birth date of 1814 per
averaging the two censuses.
John married Mariah Felton. They were members of the Bethlehem Baptist Church
in Forsyth Co GA. Per the census, John was born in SC. They arrived in GA
about 1840.
Children of John & Mariah:
Caroline, Frances, Mary, Ellen, James L., Susan B., Rebecca J. Richard A.,
John F., Lucy B., Emma Chamblee.
Also in Forsyth Co GA was the Riley Bolton family for a few seconds. Riley
married a daughter of Jarred Chamblee of Wake Co, Elizabeth Chamblee. He left
Wake Co and went to Forsyth Co GA for the 1850, 1860, censuses. Thanks to
Carla for telling me about Dorothy McGinnis Crandall, Dorothy told us Riley
went to nearby Dawson Co GA after 1860. There are a also few
"Chumbly/Chumbleys" in marriage records in Dawson Co: William Chumley, Sarah
Chumly, Rebecca A. Chumley, John Chumbly, Cinda Chumbly, Andrew J. Chumbly.
So, at first blush I would look at a Forsyth Co "Chamlee" marriage of Caroline
to possibly be the daughter of the John in the census since it could fit, but
according to my database it must be a daughter of Tillmon and Kindness.
Perhaps the Cantrells were no relationship to the Chamblees in Forsyth Co GA.
It's hard to believe, but very possible.
