Are you referring to John Martin Chamlee who married Mary/Polly Guthrie and
(2) Annie E. Bailey [her second marriage]?
Generally, census studies together with other records often helps flush our
errors in records and form a pattern which helps make a final determination.
All censuses were made haphazardly, sometimes the children reported, or the
neighbors, or the second wife who wasn't privy to alot of details, etc., or the
census taker was hard of hearing, from another country, etc. etc. There are many
explanations for inconsistencies and why spelling and details changed from
one record to another. Women often lied about their age, there simply was much
guessing at times. The final mystery is often left unsolved, even after diving
into estate, land, and other records. The truth is, census records are
considered secondary sources.
John Martin Chamlee, son of William Chamlee in the census:
1850 census, Cherokee Co GA, p. 489, CHAMLEE, Martin, 42, farmer, $1800 b. SC
1860 census, Cherokee Co, Wood Stack Dist, Canton PO July 26 p856,
1415/Martin Chamlee 53 farmer 2500/1800 SC
1870, Cherokee Co GA, Hickory Flats, Canton PO, Aug 2nd, Martin Chamlee 62,
farmer, 1500/600 b. SC
1880 Census Place: Hickory Flat, Cherokee, Georgia, Martin CHAMLEE Self ,
M M W 72 SC, Occ: Farmer
He probably died ca 1890.
Hope this helps.

The 1864 GA Military census shows
Martin Chamblee in Cherokee Co, GA age 57 yr 3 mo oc blacksmith born
Pendleton, SC
This should establish his occupation and birthplace which I had only seen
as SC.
