Shame</A>
It might be helpful to review the site above which lets you in on a few of
the scams on the internet, and those profiting by honest genealogists. There
have been many people simple falsifying and making up genealogies for profit for
years.
Often I see people selling information from
familysearch.org, which is, of
course, actually FREE. I see sites with "Chamblee" information trapped from
another site and reprinted--often with many errors. You need to MAKE SURE things
are sourced and referenced, otherwise you are probably picking up and trusting
in bad information.
I have been on the internet since the early 1990s and watched the unethicals
and the dishonest profit a little more each year. More and more people are
placing their info at
myfamily.com so their email addresses, personal
information, and genealogy cannot be illegally printed in books, sold on the internet, or
infringed in anyway. Anyone will let you see their
myfamily.com site if you
are an honest researcher.
Below is a cut/paste by the author from "Genealogy Hall of Shame" which I
found interesting on a well known site...
MYTrees.com, also
known as
KindredKonnections.com is an outfit that lifts
people's databases from publicly accessable websites, republishes the data
without obtaining clearance of the compiler, and without a contractual agreement or
copyright release, displays the data on their website under a copyright notice
of their own.
In addition, an incentive is to require you to subscribe, for the priveledge
of recieving the contact information on the submitter.
They have THREE of my genealogy files in their database, that have been
lifted from Rootsweb, and from MCCServ, places where I have placed my data for FREE
access to the public.<<
Anyway....caveat emptor...
