For those related to the Isham Chamblee/Elizabeth Isabelle Cockrell line of
Pickens Co AL and Freestone Co TX, I have been reverifying the census studies
on this family and there are some discrepancies from compiled genealogy I
received prior to my re-examing the sources.
I have found as proven children from censuses 1850 (Pickens co AL), 1860
(Pickens Co AL), 1870 (Freestone Co TX), 1880 (Freestone Co TX):
Isham Chamblee b. ca 1823 died 17 Feb 1920, Freestone Co TX. I was given the
name "Isham B. Chamblee", though I have NO idea where the "B" came
from.
Never showed up on census records, perhaps estate and land records. Anyone
know? Who has pulled records on this man?
In the 1850 Isham's wife was shown as "Isabella" in the 1860 it was
"Elizabeth". I am not a Cockrell researcher, so I am not sure if this really
is one person or two per all the compiled genealogy I have received, i.e.,
Elizabeth Isabella Cockrell. It IS possible these are two different wives.
Additional later census studies on Isham would be interesting in proving
this. The last census Elizabeth is enumerated in is the 1870. By 1880 her
husband was living alone next door to children.
WIFE: Elizabeth Isabelle Cockrell (unverified)
CHILDREN:
William H. Chamblee b. 1848, marr an "M.E. _______" Was known as
"Henry" in
later censuses in Freestone.
Laura E. Chamblee b.1850ish , marr Daniel Pink Bennett
Margretta b. 1852, compiled genealogy given to me claimed she married Addison
S. Cockrell. The 1880 census has Addision S. Cockrell married to a "Bell
Cockrell". Whether this is the same person is not proven to date.
Anna b. ca 1856, married Marion Monroe Mosteller
Goana b. 1856, lived with his sister in the Bennett family in 1880
Tempe Ann Chamblee b. 3 Feb 1858 - No proof from any census 1850-1880 that
she was a child of Isham Chamblee under the name "Tempe", reportedly married
John William Weaver, 1875, Freestone Co TX. The 1880 census does give proof
of her being a Chamblee:

There is a Clementine Chamblee who was 2 years old in the 1860 census of
Freestone Co TX same age as Tempe Chamblee Weaver. Is "Clementine" also
Tempe? Have NO idea where the name "Ann" came from in "Tempe Ann
Chamblee".
Perhaps the 1900, 1910, etc censuses will shed light on this.
Joseph Dec 1859, on 1860 census as a new born, not on 1870. No further
information Possibly died.
Alice, 1861 reportedly married Thomas Monroe Driver, 13 Jul 1876 (at 15?!),
Freestone Co TX. The only Driver I have found after the marriage date of 1876
in the 1880 census was Thomas Driver who was a child of 15 in the family of
J. A. Driver in Freestone Co. TX. There is no Monroe Driver, Thomas Driver or
Alice Driver in the 1880 census anywhere in Texas. Maybe they left the state.
John L Chamblee 1865-1868. There is a "John Chamblee" as a brother-in-law in
the 1880 census above born ca 1868. He was "John L. Chamblee" 5 years old on
the 1870 census. Estimated age 1865-1868. No further info, 1900 census would
be interesting.
Orphelia b. ca 1868-1872 reportedly married Joseph Burnett or Bennett Mar 8
1888. There is no likely "Burnett" in the 1880, and under Bennett or Burnett
to be a likely husband-to-be. ("Ophelia" was an important name in the
Mosteller and Cockrell families, collateral lines). Any hints here?
I hope I got everyone. If you have further record citations, please add your
comments.
