We DO NOT know FOR SURE when William and Dorcas (Sego) Chamlee came to
Hall County, Georgia. Lillie Archer Chamlee (1905-1981) suggested
William may have been in Hall Co before 1820 census, on which he
appeared. "Washington Chamblee" appeared on 1820 census of Gwinnett Co
and if that is the same one who was a brother to William, they lived not
far from each other.
William purchased land in lower Hall County Jan 3 1822 from Dossett (on
the waters of Mulbury Creek) -- in 1829 he apparently sold it to James
Tippin (250 acres) --
We do know William/Dorcas moved into Cherokee County when it opened up
for settlement. They lived at Hickory Flat.
As for children of Robert Chamlee/M E Haley, Wayne and Ruth Chamlee
(Social Circle, GA) got that info from Sarah Dillard of Chatsworth and
W. D. Henry (recently deceased) of Dalton, both descendants of R.
Chamlee. They passed it on to us.
I do not know that it is ALL 100% accurate, but it is more than we had
before and probably "pretty close" to being right.
Glad to hear from you. . .
