Condolences to D'Ann Stoddard and her family, on the death of her mother,
Marguerite Mary Strickland Allred, on Thursday, January 12, 2006.
The following obituary appeared in the "Daily Herald," Provo, Utah, on
Friday, January 13, 2006:
Early in the morning of January 12, 2006, Marguerite Mary Allred at last
passed beyond the power of pain to join her beloved husband, Theras Quathel
Allred, who preceded her in death twelve years ago.
Marguerite was a woman of tremendous faith. She struggled with a chronic
back condition that defined her physical life but not her soul. She was a
devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and lived a life
of service as best she could. She was a devoted mother of five daughters and
a caring neighbor whom many remember for her small kindnesses through the
years.
Marguerite was also a talented artist. Her prize-winning quilts, lovely
oils, knitting and crochet work are more prized by her children and grandchildren
as her legacy of love. These will be on display at the viewing prior to the
service.
Born Marguerite Mary Strickland on June 23, 1921 in Norfolk, Virginia, she
moved to Provo when she married her husband. Together, they built a cozy home·
on Cherry Lane, where she lived until her death.
Survivors include her five daughters and their husbands, Melva Wheelwright
(Lynn), Pat Fugal (Mac), D'Ann Stoddard (Robert), Nada Midkiff (Bill), and
Karla Wilkes (Kirt), eighteen grandchildren, her sister, Betty Monson of Orem,
Utah, and her brother Ivan Strickland, of Norfolk, Virginia. Preceding her in
death were three brothers, Joe, Don Ray and Albert Strickland.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 14th at 10:00 a.m. in the
Sundberg Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street in Orem. Family and friends may
call Saturday prior to the service at 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Mortuary.
Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
