The James Monroe Chamblee located in Tennessee in 1880 referred to in Dann's
latest note is the one I have in my records as the son of Isham and Elizabeth
Chamblee of Blount County, Al..
James' wife Adaline Gillian(d), (married 27 August 1857 at the home of Robert
P. (T.) Gilliand, Blount County, Al.) was the daughter of Robert P. (T.)
Gilliand and was born ca. 1840 in Tennessee. The 1860 census of Blount County
shows a Robert S. Gilliland, 67 yrs, b. SC and wife Eliza, 42 yrs, b. VA with
7 children. The three oldest are shown born in Tennessee from 1842 to 1845,
Adaline was b. ca. 1840, TN so she fits. The youngest four children were b.
in AL. from 1849 to 1859.
In the 1862 Confederate Census of Blount County, Alabama, James and Adaline
Chamblee are noted as having two children, Sena E. (possibly Assenath
Elizabeth) born 1858 and a baby (no sex given) born December 1861, both born
in Blount County. These two children if they survived the War to 1880 may
have already left James' household prior to the 1880 Census as they would
have been 21 and 19 years of age.
Of note, William Marion Chamblee, James' older brother, also named a daughter
Sena E. (Elizabeth). I have considered the possibilty that this name could be
the full name of their mother, Elizabeth Chamblee since two sons of used it.
James' moved to Tennessee after the war. Lincoln County, Tn. was a county
that some of the families of Blount are from and may have been the original
home place of the Gillian's. James was noted in his father's estate
settlement papers as living there in 1874- 75.
James Monroe Chamblee was a soldier during the Civil War in Captain Skinner's
Company under General Withers joining on 10 November 1861.
I have no additional information on the children.
