I read your 1997 post on the Spartanburg,
SC query re the Chamblin name possibly
being changed from Chamlee.
I am a great granddaughter of Samuel
Chamblin and Jane Boggs Chamblin of
Spartanburg.
We have traced our family back to
Ville de Chamblin in France in 1600s.
The Village still exists in France - so
we believe this is the correct name.
We had once thought it came from
Chamberlain or other similiar names
but have concluded it to have always
been Chamblin.
There are some who descended from
this same line who are now using
Shamblin and Shamblee.....(could you
be part of that line?) due - apparrently
to the French pronunciation of the
name.
