Hi again:
Sorry no one has responded to your question adequately yet. Been traveling
alot this year and mail gets lost alot these days. Anne and others also busy,
but we try, thanks for your patience.
Have you tried to reverify all this with the 1860, 1860, 1870, etc censuses
for Sanford's family and all their children as heads of household? Surely
Appleton will show up if he is there at least by 1880 as a child in someone's
household--betting it is William Chamblee's.I encourage you to carefully do
some census studies to figure this out.
There is a HUGE span from the first child of Sanford Chamblee, William b. ca
1852 to your Appleton b. 1879. I only have four children for Sanford with the
last being born 1857. I still think the "Bub" as a child of William Rufus
Chamblee, oldest son of Sanford C. Chamblee in 1879 or the next born,
"Bunion" is more likely. Nicknaming and "mishearing" was common by
record
takers. "Appleton" could be very much one of these guys.
All the children of Sanford's only other son, Lewis Dillard Chamblee, are
accounted for with definite birthdates, names, spouses.
I've never pulled any of the estate papers for Sanford C. Chamblee and all
this sons, you could also do that and see what hatches!
My best,
D'Ann
