D'Ann Stoddard recently bought to my attention that James B. Chamblee's
first wife was Chloe Massey, daughter of Richard Massey of Franklin Co., NC
in the part of Franklin that was Wake Co. until 1786. I have known for a
long time that one of Richard's daughters m. James Chamblee, but I never
saw her first name mentioned until D'Ann's communication.
Now I'm thinking that the Chloe Massey who was a member of the Poplar
Springs Baptist Church before 1800 where Richard and other Masseys were
members may well have been Richard's first wife and mother of Chloe Massey
Chamblee and all of Richard's other children. Richard apparently remarried
to a Sarah Valentine in 1810 - a few years before his death in 1815.
Can someone point me toward some of the documents, family traditions, etc.
that supports James B's first wife being Chloe Massey, daughter of Richard.
Of possible interest to descendants of Chloe and James B.: I have an
enormous amount of information on Richard's family and two generations of
ancestors that I'd love to share. This same family of Chamblees appears to
be the same ones who married Bagwells related to me in Wake Co. and who
lived in Pendleton (later Anderson Co., SC)
I would appreciate any help on information relating to Chloe. I have
checked the Chamblee archives already.
Best regards,
Theron Smith.
