I have been told by the librarian at the Harold Simpson Confederate
Record Center (located at Hill Junior College, Hillsboro, TX) that there
is NO central listing of Confederate soldiers anywhere that is complete.
However, I have been to the Simpson Confederate Record Center and pulled
all the Boltons in AL, MS and TX listed there; I also requested the same
information from the AL state archives. Then I compared the two. There
were numerous differences; some records on the same person contained
different information depending on the source from which I obtained it.
I have also used the wonderful TX Confederate records info online. (I
wish the other states had this.)
>From my personal observation, I think that the Simpson Confederate
Record Center is the most complete location of these records. To the
best of my knowledge, their info is not online. I am lucky because it
is located 30 miles from where I grew up, and since I go there twice a
year, I have been able to visit it. The Simpson Confederate Record
Center also has histories of the individual units in which the soldiers
served.
If you want to write to them, just address it to the Harold Simpson
Confederate Record Center, Hill Junior College, Hillsboro, TX (with
whatever the appropriate zip code is). They will get the letter that
way.

I just thought I would tell you that in my presence in 1960 Bertha asked
Henry why he spelled his name with an S instead of with a C and he said that
before he went to the service he had gotten into some trouble and that he
liked to make S better than C anyway.
> Just what is a "coloral corporal" in the Civil War?
Undoubtedly a "Color Corporal," a member of the Color Guard. Those were the
soldiers responsible for carrying the flag.
