Did Hardin Chambers sometime go by Hardy? Hardin Chambers married Nicey Kinsey in Warren
Co., Ga. in Dec. of 1805. Hardy Chambers was on the 1805 Tax Digest for Warren Co., Capt.
D. H. Zachry's Dist. He owned no land.
From "Some Ga. Records, Vol. 9" Warren Co., Ga. Deed Bk. C, p. 109: State of
Ga., 10th Nov. 1806, John Zachry of Warren Co., Ga. to Hardy Chambers of same place for
the sum of $500 for a tract of land in Warren Co., Ga. and on waters of Ogeechee and adj.
Wm. Heath's line and James Zachry's line. Witnessess: Jesse Zachry and M. Hubert,
J. P. Reg. 9th April 1808.
In the 1805 Ga. Land Lottery, Hardy Chambers of Warren Co. won Land Lot 142 of the 4th
Dist. of Baldwin Co. He sold this land to P. M. Compton on May 6, 1805.
From "Land Grants by Lotteries or Bounty Hancock Co., Ga."
Capt. Grantland's Dist. Chambers, Hardin 275 acres in Hancock Co. on Spring Creek
adj. Tarver.
There was a Hardin Chambers who had a letter remaining in the Milledgeville, Ga. post
office on July 1, 1827.
This from "The Ga. Land Lottery Papers 1805-1914" by Davis and Lucas: p. 245
Hancock Co.: Lot 133-2-3 Cherokee, Pers. came Benjamin Russell to claim lot 133-2-3 drawn
by the orphans of Hardin Chambers, as owner in part. Signed: Benjamin Russell (by mark).
bef. M. H. Sperghts, J. P. Sept. 1844.
Hardin (Hardy) Chambers is probably a brother to my ancestor Margaret "Peggy"
Chambers. Peggy married Loudy Walker in Morgan Co., Ga. in 1809. An old family document
gave her maiden name as Chambers although when she married Loudy, her name was Ritcherson
(Richardson). I found a marriage in Warren Co. for Peggy Aaron to William Richardson on
Oct. 28, 1800. Peggy must have married an Aaron the first time. In the 1805 Tax Digest,
William Richardson was also in Capt. Zachry's Dist. with Hardy Chambers. Peggy and
Wm. named a son Hardy Richardson. And both the names Chambers and Hardy have been passed
down in subsequent generations.
Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lanny
