Hi Alice,
I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question about John Chambers.
When I get a chance I will talk to Agnes Arnold, she is Edna's daughter.
Maybe she can give some information which will be of help.
I am interested in the Annie Chambers-Sennett-Skittlethrope question. One
of my gggrandfathers was a Sennett and I am having problems with finding any
information about his family.
Recently, I have been to the county library looking up some things-I will
keep an eye out for the Chambers.
Are you aware of the Obediah Chambers listed in the 1850and1860 Washington
County, NC Census?
There is a site on the web which has information about the Collins. Go to
the Tyrrell County, NC genealogy site and click on to Vergie's Treasure
Trove. See if you can get it. It also has Piney Grove Cemetery with all the
tombstone inscriptions.

Hello
I have seen the Obediah Chambers listed in the census. Don't know anymore
than that, do you? I have seen Vergie's web site and the last time I went to
NC, I visited the Piney Grove Cem. Got pictures of all the family grave
sites...
Now about Annie, wife of JE Skittlethorpe and daughter of Benj. Chambers &
Carolyn. Have you been to Washington Co. to look up this marriage?
About Annie's parents....... It is possible that Benj could have been married
even several times before he married Carolyn. I don't know his birth date.
So many of the Washington Co marriage records were lost in fires. Did I tell
you that I have a hand written copy of a document stating that Leathia
Chambers relinquishes the Administratrix of the estate of the late Benj.
Chambers, who died without leaving a will to Thos J. Basnight Where Leathia
name is, they first wrote Carolyn and then marked through it and put Leathia.
So my guess is that her name is Leathia Carolyn and she probably went by
Carolyn. This was dated 6-14-1907.
On 6-10-1907 there is a document saying that Thos J. Basnight is the person
entitled to the Letter of Administration of this estate and that Carolyn
Chambers, his widow, is entitled as heir of his estate.
Note the dates on these two documents. Seems strange........
If only Washington Co. had the 1900 Census on line.............it would
answer a lot of questions.
Until later
Alice
