Hello
I have been reviewing Annie's death certificate. Looks like her husband was
the informant or.... possibly a son named J.E. Skittlethorpe also.....and he
did not know who her mother and father were or where were from. It would be
very strange that her husband would not know that......Nor did he know her
birthday. The death cert. says she was 40 so would have been born 1888.
Marriage license indicate she was born 1890.
At the time of her marriage in 1912, the license say that Annie's father is
dead and mother is living. Well that positively rules out Benjamin Chambers
(1870-1944)
There was another Benjamin Chambers who died in 1907. His wife was Leathia
Carolyn __________? I have two documents which are applications for
administration of the estate. One is for Thos. J. Basnight dated 6-10-1907.
It states that Caroline Chambers is his widow. The other document states
that Caroline (which a line is drawn through on that name) and above it is
written Leathia Chambers, Administratrix of the estate, relinquishes
administration in favor of Thos. J. Basnight. This is a hand written
document dated 6-14-1907 Washington Co. NC.
Here is another thought......If it was Annie's husband that was the informant
on her death certificate......and he did not know her parents......it is
possible that Annie was raised or adopted by Ben Chambers.......Have you
checked Bastardy Bonds of Washington and Tyrrell Co. NC.? And it is also
possible that Carolyn Chambers was married before to someone else...
Have you found Carolyn Chambers? She was alive in 1912.
Have you seen the 1900 Washington Co Census? or 1910 Census? Annie should
be on both of them. They usually give a lot of information.
The death certificate also states that Annie was buried at the Hollie Neck
Church on May 26 1928. Possibly an unmarked grave. Need to look at the
Church records....
Until Later
