In doing research for Chambers Heroes, for completeness, it became obvious I should
research other Chambers lines as well. At this point I have over 5000 Chambers
descendants in my database. Of those 5000 , 118 have the name of "James
Chambers", with most of them being born before 1825! My point is, even back in the
colonial period, there were a lot of Chambers with the same name and very similar
backgrounds. With that in mind, I do have knowledge of your James Chambers (1764-1848 in
and around Monmouth County, NJ). My records also confirm he was a Revolutionary War
Veteran. Unfortunately, I do not know any details about his specific ancestral line. I
do however know of yet another Chambers line in New Jersey. They descend from John
Chambers (1677-1747). John is said to be from Scotland by way of County Antrim, Northern
Ireland ... just like the four Chambers brothers that are the subject of Chambers Heroes.
I understand he had two sons, David and Alexander. David!
lived in the Philadelphia area and Alexander around Trenton. If you feel you've
exhausted your leads stateside, I would suggest looking in Northern Ireland and then
Scotland. You might also research Margaret Reynolds' line and the lines of their
children's spouses. Keep in mind neighbors and relatives often migrated together as
an extended family. I wish I had better news and could have welcomed you as a cousin.
It's just not to be ... yet! :-)
