Any Chambers from New Jersey, where a sub of Trenton once was Chambersburg. Any
information on that sub appreciated. It is now just another part of the city. My
originator is said to have come from Normandy France and enlisted with Lafayette in the
Revolutionary War. His name was either Stephen or William and three of his known sons are
William 1775 married Anna. Daniel who had seven girls, seven boys and is quite well
researched and Stephen born 1790. We have a marriage for Stephen to a Mary Tubbs in
Tionesta Venango County in 1827. They had three childern Stephen, Shambert and Elizabeth.
At the time of this marriage Stephen (1790) was 37. His older brother, William owned a
board and grist mill in western Pa, maybe Venango County. Daniel also settled in W. Pa.
My connection is not clear. My William Chambers is born 1810 to a Stephen Shambert
Chambers near Trenton New Jersey. The mothers maiden name may be Diskey but more likely
Munyon (Lemunion, Lamunion and Munion) heralding from a Richard in Upper Freehold,
Monmouth County, New Jersey 1779 -1794. His sons were Cornelius, John, Thomas and David.
All but David move on to Greene County, Pa before going to Ohio. Hocking, Perry counties.
I'm interrested in finding more out on the marriages that may have ocurred between
these two families. My William is said to have left home as an apprentice to a cabinet
maker at a young age. He ran away to an uncle William who owned a board and grist mill.
William married in Ohio to a Miller and named his second son Stephen Shambert. William is
said to have a sister Esther and a brother Shambert. William father Stephen Shambert died
of Brights disiese at the age of 62 in Chambersburg, New Jersey. What say all you
Chambers???
