Well,
I am looking for some parents of my gggrandfather and his siblings:
From the 1850 census of Wright County Missouri are these orphans:
GEORGE CHAMBERS, age 21, living in the Lunsford house and who eventually
married Zelphus Lunsford. He was killed in the Civil War... but he and
Zelphus had about 3 children.
WILLIAM SINGLETON CHAMBERS, age 18 living in the Julius Huff home. William
also was killed in the Civil War... but not before he married Delcina
Weaver. With her, they also had about 3 children.
ELIZABETH CHAMBERS, age 13/14 living in the William Franklin home. I didn't
find what happened to her. But, there was a mention of a court record where
she filed a case against Mr. Franklin. It was missing from the courthouse
records.
JACOB/JACK CHAMBERS, age 13/14 and living in the William Kitchen Benton
home. Mr. Benton was some sort of court official. Every document I found on
the Chambers children went through him. In his will, however, he gave
generously to his own children but left out any mention of the Chambers
children. Jacob married Elizabeth Stacy... a niece of Mr. Benton. The family
story is that Mr. Benton was a cruel man and was the reason that Jacob broke
ties with his family. Jacob and Elizabeth's child, Andrew/Anderson Jackson
Chambers, was raised in Newton County, Arkansas by his grandmother,
Catherine Kelly Stacy.
The census says that the Chambers children came from Tennessee. I don't know
if the parents died in Tennessee or Missouri. The only place I have found
them is in Missouri. I have yet to find their parents' will.
Now, in the summer, we visited Wright County Missouri. The director of the
historical society seemed to be a relative in the Stacy family. She really
acted like there was a secret that she wasn't willing to tell us about. And,
I also found a Stacy group from Wright County... they also acted very
curiously the same way. None of the descendants of the families that the
CHAMBERS children lived with have a clue about them... and even say they
have never heard of them.
Thanks,
Polly
