Hi List...
Even tho I am new to the list, I have been doing research since 1977. For
close to 30 years I have been trying to find the parents of my great great
grandfather, John William Chambers, who was born in NC. I have never had the
county in NC in which he was born until I had a stroke of luck last month.
A DAR Registrar from California sent me a biography of a brother to my great
grandfather. (John Cunningham Chambers brother to my Benjamin Bradson
Chambers, both sons of John William Chambers)In the bio, it tells what county and
the name of his father. John Chambers, son of William Chambers of near
Wilkesboro, NC. It continued to say that William left the Wilkesboro area and moved
to Greene County, TN while John was very small. John was born 22 Oct 1806.
My research cousins and I feel that maybe this William left possibly after
the death of Edmund in 1808 if this William is at all possibly the son of
Edmund.
I know that William, son of Edmund, is found in TN but in Bledsoe County.
Perhaps the biography was incorrect and the son who gave the information in 1895
had it mixed up. We all know that we cannot depend wholly on biographys.
Maybe this William went to Bledsoe and his son, John, moved to Greene County
when he was older. John did marry in Greene County to Rhoda Dunn.
I drove to Raleigh, NC yesterday and looked through the probate records of
Nancy Chambers. I saw the actual papers that were written in the 1800's. I had
a copy made of each page. Is Nancy the second wife of Edmund? Is Patiana
Spencer his first wife? If so, how did she die?
I would like to hear more of the lore of Patiana and also would like to know
where the story of how Edmund died originated from. (Killed in a hunting
accident.) Is this documented in court records or was it passed down thru oral
history from one of the lines? I have picked up just bits and pieces from the
Rootsweb Archives and now that we finally have a lead, I am very anxious and
excited about this "brick wall" coming down that my family has had for
years.....
I would appreciate any information and time that you have to offer.
Thank you.
