with people in the wonderful state of New Jersey. Sue
CHAMBERS
1) RALPH CHAMBERS, married Ann. In 1824 they probably lived in New
Jersey.
Sons, Elias, John T. and Charles.
John T. Chambers married Saretta E. Rulon on Nov. 22, 1854. Both
families were well-known seafaring families. John T. and Saretta had a
son, Frank M. born August 5, 1855.
Frank M. Chambers, son of Captain John T. was also a boatman. He was
born on August 15, 1855 in New Jersey. He married Rose L. Maynard of
Allyns Point, CT, and had children: Effie, Bertha and John. Frank died
on March 12, 1910. He was Sherriff from 1893-1896. An article about him
from NJ Courier March 17, 1910 tells about his family connections.
Charles H. Chambers married Roxanna Rulon on September 2, 1855.
2) ELIAS HULLFISH CHAMBERS, son of Ralph and Ann, was born near Trenton
on January 28, 1819. On January 15, 1845, at the age of 26, he married
Mary Ann Soper, daughter of Charles Soper and Amy Warren (of
Waretown)(married October 27, 1821). Mary was born February 16, 1822.
They lived at one time in Toms River, Ocean County, New Jersey. Elias
was the Captain of a Four-masted Schooner. In 1850 they lived in Union
Township. Mary Ann died on February 19, 1881. Elias died on November
23, 1896 at the age of 78. The death record lists his parents as Ralph
and Ann. (NJVR). The inventory of his will lists a widow, "Miriam".

Mary Ann, born 1848, died 1932, m. Rev. Samuel H. Porter
Eliza, born 1848, twin of Mary, m. William Morse May 13, 1877
Elias Hullfish, Jr., born about 1852/3.
Abigail L., born about 1854, married Edward James Irons on December 24,
1880.
1850 census of Union Turnpike, Ocean County, NJ shows family of Elias H.
Chambers age 31, Mary A., age 28, Charles, age 3, Mary and Eliza
(twins, age 1).
This census also shows John Chambers, age 23, boatman and Charles
Chambers, Age 27, boatman.
The 1860 census of Union Turnpike, Ocean County, NJ shows family of
Elias H. Chambers, age 41, mariner, wife, Mary, age 37, Charles S., age
13, Mary C. and Eliza, twins, age 11, Elias, age 8 and Abigail L., age
6.
3)ELIAS HULLFISH CHAMBERS, JR., son of Elias and Mary Ann Soper, was
born about June 1851, Waretown, NJ. He married Maria Louise Camburn
February 16, 1881 (Three days before his mother died).
Elias and Maria had three children: Arthur Woodburn, Rufus Edwards and
Matilda.
Rufus Edwards Chambers married Alice and had two daughters, Mary and
Louise.
Matilda, called Mattie, married Brooks Cole and had six children:
Delsie, Madison, Arthur, Evelyn, Wallace, and one other.
Elias Jr. died May 1948, aged 95. Maria (Miriam) died in 1950 at the
age of 98.
(another report says Elias died Nov. 16, 1919 inCT.)
4)ARTHUR WOODBURN CHAMBERS was born on December 8 of 1886 (per US SSI
Death Index. SS # 047-14-4773). He married Winifred Langdale Smith,
daughter of George Phelps Smith and Harriet Langdale, about 1920.
Winifred died of a ruptured appendix. Arthur died of bladder cancer in
January of 1977, at the age of 90, probably in New Haven, CT. Arthur and
Winifred had three sons, Arthur Jr., Gordon and Marshall.
Arthur Woodburn Chambers, Jr., born on November 26, 1918, married
Margaret Unknown. He died in 1996. They had two daughters, Winifred
Hale Chambers and Margaret "Meg" Chambers.
Marshall Hale Chambers, born January 6, 1925, married Virginia. He died
in 1999 of pancreatic cancer. Marshall and Virginia had two sons,
Marshall Hale Chambers, Jr. and Samuel Phelps Chambers.
5)GORDON PHELPS CHAMBERS was born on August 7, 1921, probably in New
Haven, CT. He married Marion Cowles Littlejohn, daughter of Samuel
Leonard Brown Littlejohn and Marion Ella Cowles, about 1950.
They had three children:
Ellen, born 1950, married Robert Schroeder
Andrew Littlejohn, born July 10, 1953, married Donna Marie Nowlan
Sarah Chambers, born 1955, married Craig Goldberg
Marion died on October 1, 1971 in New Haven, CT of ovarian cancer.
Gordon died on November 4, 1986 in Hamden, New Haven, CT of colon
cancer.
6)ANDREW LITTLEJOHN CHAMBERS, son of Gordon and Marion was born on July
10, 1953 in New Haven, New Haven, CT. He married Donna Marie Nowlan,
daughter of Donald James Nowlan and Annie Sophia Stevenson. They own
and operate The Pizza Factory in Florence, MA, and live at 267 Turkey
Hill Road, Northampton, MA.
