Dear Evie,
My grandfather was Benjamin Franklin Chambers, George Thomas and Alwilda's youngest
child. Many people who are closely and not so closley related have tried to find John S
Chambers' parents. You can't believe how exciting it is to find this information.
As far as John S being "Irish", if his father was born in Burke Co. NC in 1772
and his mother in Wilkes Co, NC in 1796, they were not "just off the boat". I
always thought that they were ScotsIrish because so many people in that area were. Since
they were Protestant it figures that they were Scots who moved to Ireland for a time and
then came to America. I wonder why nobody ever used either Elijah or Rebecca as names for
their children. I always thought that John S's father was either George or Thomas and
Martha's father the other name, because of the common naming patterns at the time.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
