Message Board Post:
I am looking for information on the Chambers family in Northumberland county in Chatham
and Glenelg parishes.
According to a marriage certificate I recently obtained on my GG grandfather, Frederick
James Chambers, he was born in Douglastown and his father was Angus. Fred's
mother's name is illegible. The marriage date was September, 28, 1899. Fred was 21
years old. The marriage was at St Mary's in Chatham. The married couple remained in
Chatham as his wife Minnie Fenton was from there.
I found some possible information on Angus Chambers, one bit comes from a newspaper,
"Angus Chambers (farmer) married Mary Dutcher at the Church of St John the
Evangelist, Bay Du Vin. All are from Hardwicke (NO)." The date listed is not clear,
but the date published is June 18, 1864. The other peice I have is from the 1851 census of
Glenelg parish... Angus MacDonald Chambers, 13, is living with his father Joseph (62,
English, entered country in 1818), mother Jane (62, previous marriage possibly
"Featherham"), sister Sarah (16), step sister Mary Featherham (27), and Eliza
Mace (7, unknown relationship).
Angus apparently got around quite a bit... Angus had one child that I know of with Mary
Dutcher named John. For his second marriage he was married to Ann (unknown) with whom he
had several (5) according to the 1881 census. They were living in Welford, Kent Co, NB
Canada. The children's names were Duncan, George, Joseph, James, and Jessie (F). James
is listed as being 3 years old which would correspond to Frederick "James"'s
birth year. Angus was married a third time to Mary Elizabeth Hockins October, 26, 1889 in
Princeton Maine. The couple returned to Chatham NO, NB because Angus' childred/family
were there. Later, Angus and Lizzie moved back to Maine. They had 8 children together.
Angus died and was buried in Grand Lake Stream, Maine.
I anyone has any information on any of the people or can help me make any connections with
Fred or any info on my laundry list of Chambers people, please let me know.
Thanks Julie
